The need for npmxOn January 22nd 2026, Daniel Roe, open-source maintainer and founder, and leader of the Nuxt core team, had an idea, and made the first commit to the npmx repository. The next day, Daniel posted on Bluesky asking about people’s frustrations with the npm experience – both on the web and in the CLI. The responses came flooding in: code browsing, missing data, trust signals, dependency visibility, and the general friction around publishing.
How many talented scientists are we losing because of inaccessible tools? We want to be the pioneers of creating an accessible scientific web interface, encouraging the science community to respect people with needs.

My favourite thing to see on the feeds, though, is the evidence that there are humans still out there generating content. Sometimes an article will have a temporary headline with "TKTKTK" in it, which was captured by the aggregator before it was updated to its final version. The multiple outcome pieces especially make me chuckle: I, too, have been a web editor under pressure to get an article out the second the polls close or a casting is announced, making multiple versions on the sly in the CMS and then only promoting the one that turned out to be correct to the homepage.
